Senior Protection & Control Technologist

MPA has partnered with Canada’s leading providers of comprehensive electrical services, operations and maintenance, and energy sustainability solutions for the industrial, utility, and renewable asset markets. They are currently seeking a Senior Protection & Control Technologist to join their expanding team.

 

What you'll do:

  • Be aligned with safety to protect yourself and team members.

  • Understand, Plan, and Utilize utility & industry standard lockout procedures.

  • Read and interpret electrical AC & DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams and SLDs.

  • Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC & DC control and protection wiring schematic.

  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D and ABB.

  • Maintain or Commission Power distribution equipment including Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, HV Switches and Instrument Transformers.

  • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and Standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).

  • Ability and willingness to travel 70-80% of the time for out of town for commissioning or maintenance projects.

  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.

  • Co-ordinate the day-to-day functions on a job by job basis, such as but not limited to, compliance with all Health and Safety standards and regulations, availability of necessary resources such as human resources, equipment, and materials, resolving conflicts, timely and accurate submission of paperwork.

What you need:

  • Experience - 3 to 5 years of experience in P&C

  • Education - 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (I.e. from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.

  • Licenses - Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Communication - Talking to others to convey information effectively.

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Leadership - Able to provide technical leadership

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $60.00-$65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
